With his work, Simon Binna, an artist from Douala, Cameroon, explores and revisits quintessential African themes like the human figure and the ubiquitous African mask.
Binna’s paintings are both bold and powerful and show the artist exceptional maturity and intuition.
Born in Douala, Cameroon, in 1966, Simon Binna lived in France for over 15 years. It is in Paris that his work is first noticed. There, Binna immerses himself in art history. He compulsively attends museums shows, studying and learning from the old masters and the contemporaries alike. It is during these formative years, that Binna started to make sense of what he had learned instinctively. While in France, Binna showed his work extensively.
Strong of this experience, Binna decided to move back to Douala, Cameroon, in 2014. In 2016, Binna participates in the first edition of Kribi Art Fair, a Contemporary African Art fair in Kribi, Cameroon.
